Selangor may declare holiday if host contingent emerge overall Sukma champions, says exco

SHAH ALAM, Aug 23 — The Selangor government is contemplating declaring a special holiday if their host team ultimately wins the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026, according to Mohd Najwan Halimi, chairman of the State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee. The proposal will only be submitted to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari once the final medal tally is determined.

The Selangor contingent appears to be in a strong position to claim the overall title. If the host team does emerge victorious, Najwan suggested that incentives could be considered for the residents of Selangor. He also mentioned that plans for incentives for top-performing athletes would be discussed following the conclusion of SUKMA.

As of 2:50 pm, Selangor had secured 85 gold medals, including achievements by the women's Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports team, women's 3m springboard diving, women's singles table tennis, and men's singles lawn bowls. Najwan urged the athletes to stay focused, as there are only a day and a half left before the competition ends.

Regardless of the outcome, he reminded the competitors that competition inherently involves both success and failure.
