Selangor may declare holiday if host contingent emerge overall Sukma champions, says exco

Shah Alam, August 23 — The Selangor government is contemplating granting a special holiday if the local team clinches the overall victory at the ongoing Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026, according to State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi. The proposal will be put forth to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari after the final medal count is released.

With the Selangor contingent in a strong position to emerge as overall champions, Najwan suggested that a special incentive could be offered to the residents of Selangor. He also mentioned that incentives for top-performing athletes would be finalized post-SUKMA. As of 2:50 pm, Selangor had accumulated 85 gold medals, thanks to the women's Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports team, women's 3m springboard diving, women's singles table tennis, and men's singles lawn bowls performances.

However, Najwan urged athletes to stay focused, as there are only about 1.5 days left before the SUKMA competition concludes. He emphasized that both winning and losing are inherent parts of competition.
