New 13-speed Shimano Dura-Ace groupset spotted at Vuelta a España

At the Vuelta a España, images have surfaced of what appears to be a new Shimano Dura-Ace groupset in use. The groupset showcases a 13-cog cassette, integrated satellite-hood shifters, and potentially a new freehub. These sightings follow the official launch of the Dura-Ace R9370 wheels and months of leaks and speculation, suggesting it may be the R9300 version of Shimano's flagship road groupset.

The Japanese brand has added a cog to the 12-speed Dura-Ace cassette, joining Campagnolo in offering a 13-speed road groupset. A 13-cog cassette improves gear range, particularly in a 1x setup. Additionally, a new rear derailleur with a slimmer profile and diagonal cut-outs near the charging port has been spotted, indicating it may be lighter than previous versions.

However, the absence of an external battery suggests Shimano has retained the semi-wireless design of the Dura-Ace R9200, with the shifters communicating wirelessly to the derailleurs connected to a battery stored in the frame.
