Five Colombian Riders Line Up for the 2026 Vuelta a España

Five Colombian cyclists have been selected for the 2026 Vuelta a España, starting on Saturday, Aug. 22, with a 9.4-kilometer time trial in Monaco. Santiago Buitrago (26), Harold Tejada (29), Ivan Sosa (28), Juan Guillermo Martinez (21), and Juan Felipe Rodriguez (22) will represent five different teams across the 184-rider peloton. The 23-day race concludes on Sept. 13 in Granada after traversing Monaco, France, Andorra, and Spain.

Buitrago and Tejada possess the strongest general classification credentials, while Sosa returns for his second Vuelta in six years. Martinez competes for his second Vuelta start, and Rodriguez debuts in a Grand Tour for the first time. Santiago Buitrago, a 26-year-old from Bogota, will ride for Bahrain Victorious in the 72nd jersey.

He has previously competed in the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España, finishing 10th overall in 2023 and 15th in 2025. Buitrago also has stage wins in the Giro d’Italia (2022, 2023), a Paris-Nice victory in 2024, and a Vuelta a Burgos stage win in 2025.

Harold Tejada, 29, will race for XDS Astana Team with the 181st jersey. A veteran of all three Grand Tours, Tejada finished 12th overall in the 2025 Vuelta and claimed fourth place at the UAE Tour. He also won a stage at Paris-Nice in 2026. Tejada will aim for the general classification title in the Vuelta.

Ivan Sosa, 28, will ride for Equipo Kern Pharma with the 226th jersey. A six-year veteran of stage races, Sosa won the Vuelta a Burgos in 2018 and 2019, as well as the Tour de La Provence, Vuelta a Asturias, and Tour de Langkawi in 2022. His return to the Vuelta marks his second appearance in the race.

Juan Guillermo Martinez, 21, will represent Team Picnic PostNL in the 215th jersey. The youngest Colombian in the race, Martinez made his Vuelta debut in 2025 and finished 54th overall. He developed through European under-23 racing before joining Team Picnic PostNL in 2025, where he spent two seasons before moving to the WorldTour team in August 2026.

Juan Felipe Rodriguez, 22, will race for EF Education–EasyPost as the 166th jersey. A first-time Grand Tour participant, Rodriguez joined EF Education-Aevolo’s under-23 program in 2026 and was promoted to the WorldTour team in August. He secured a stage win and a third-place overall finish at the 2025 Ronde de l’Isard and claimed the general classification title at the Vuelta de la Juventud, Colombia's premier under-23 stage race.
