2027: Tinubu demand victory as Yari, Uzodimma lead campaign

President Bola Tinubu has declared his ambition to secure victory in the 2027 election, directing members of the All Progressives Congress tasked with leading his campaign to ensure the party's triumph. Tinubu announced the formation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the upcoming election during a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The President holds the position of chairman, with Vice President Kashim Shettima as the vice chairman. Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, has been appointed as the Director-General of the campaign, while Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State, serves as the secretary.

The campaign council consists of a body of advisers, including Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Segun Osoba, Rochas Okorocha, Abdullahi Adamu, and Florence Ita-Giwa. The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, have been designated as deputy directors-general for the Southern and Northern zones, respectively.

Other members of the council include Adams Oshiomhole, who will serve as deputy director-general for mobilisation, and Femi Gbajabiamila, the President's Chief of Staff, who will oversee administration.

To bolster their efforts, Tinubu encouraged campaign leaders to reach out to members who may not have been formally listed but are willing to contribute to the crucial campaign endeavors. The statement further detailed the roles and responsibilities of members within the legal, media, new media, spokespersons, and spokesperson groups. Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, criticized the unveiling of the campaign team as a tactic by Tinubu to divert attention from the subsidy debate.
