Series of explosions, fires hit three southern Thai provinces

A series of explosions and attacks shook at least 12 locations in Thailand's southern provinces of Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat overnight, according to reports. Almost simultaneous disturbances occurred around 8:15 PM yesterday, involving bomb blasts, tyre burnings, vehicle fires, and assaults on public facilities and businesses.

Narathiwat suffered the most explosions, followed by Yala and Pattani. Security forces heightened their presence and sealed off several areas for inspection and investigation. In Narathiwat, selected locations like Sungai Kolok and Tak Bai were temporarily closed, with entry and exit restrictions enforced. Authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of damage or reported any casualties.

Ongoing investigations aim to determine the cause of the incidents, gauge the overall impact, and identify the perpetrators. Meanwhile, the Bangkok Post noted that Narathiwat authorities imposed a curfew until 6 AM following the attacks. These latest incidents add to the ongoing security concerns in Thailand's southern provinces, a region plagued by periodic violence stemming from a decades-long insurgency.
