Russian attacks kill at least 6, injure 26 across Ukraine, including strike on border crossing with Moldova

Russian strikes in Ukraine killed at least six people and injured 26, according to officials on Aug. 22. The attacks targeted civilians across various regions, with three fatalities and 13 injuries reported in Kherson Oblast due to damage to homes and apartments. In Donetsk Oblast, one death and seven injuries, including five in Kramatorsk, occurred from Russian strikes.

Sumy Oblast experienced a drone attack that killed one person and injured six, including a 12-year-old boy and a 37-year-old man whose truck was targeted. Kyiv suffered casualties when Russian forces launched a wave of ballistic missiles overnight, with an employee of Ukrainian Railways, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, among the dead. Additionally, a Russian drone attack in Odesa Oblast damaged a border crossing with Moldova, though it has since been restored.

Ukraine's air defense managed to intercept three surface-to-air missiles, six small cruise missiles, and a staggering 182 drones. President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the urgent need for new supplies of ballistic missile interceptors and other missiles to protect lives, as each day without air defense results in avoidable casualties.

Meanwhile, Russia's relentless attacks have intensified, with one notable incident on Aug. 21 involving a double-tap attack on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih, killing 16 and injuring 130.
