PM Shehbaz directs authorities to provide financial assistance to flood-hit families

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to provide financial assistance to families affected by recent monsoon rains and floods, according to the Prime Minister's Office. During a meeting to discuss the damage caused, he instructed that aid be given to families who lost loved ones and those whose homes were destroyed.

PM Shehbaz emphasized the need to restore power and repair roads promptly. He also ordered federal ministers and secretaries to visit affected regions, assess the damage, and expedite relief efforts. The National Disaster Management Authority and Provincial District Management Authorities were directed to be fully prepared for potential further flooding.

The Prime Minister was briefed on the impacts of this year's monsoon and the progress of current relief initiatives. Over 615 tonnes of relief goods have been distributed to affected areas since the floods began. Early warning systems were operational, allowing for timely evacuations of citizens. Pakistan has reported 164 deaths from June 26 to August 21 during the ongoing monsoon season.

Forecasters warn of additional rain, wind, and thunderstorms across various regions, potentially leading to urban and flash flooding through August 23.
