PM directed authorities to provide financial assistance for floods hit families

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the provision of financial aid to families impacted by the recent monsoon rains and floods that have swept across Pakistan. Speaking at a gathering in Lahore on Saturday, the premier emphasized the need for support for the families of those who have lost their lives, as well as for those whose homes have been completely or partially damaged by the calamities.

He instructed that the restoration of electricity transmission systems and roads in the affected regions should be expedited. In addition, Shehbaz directed relevant federal ministers and secretaries to personally inspect the devastated areas to gauge the extent of the damage and kickstart repair efforts.

The prime minister also urged for the swift provision of essential commodities and other relief materials to areas that remain isolated due to the ongoing crisis. He called upon the National Disaster Management Authority and provincial disaster management authorities to be fully prepared for upcoming relief operations, given the forecast of further precipitation and potential flooding.

According to the meeting, 615 tonnes of relief goods have been dispatched to monsoon-affected regions thus far, with additional supplies being organized. It was also reported that flood victims have been relocated to secure locations in all impacted areas, and the National Disaster Management Authority and provincial disaster management teams are poised to provide assistance in case of further flooding.

The meeting was informed that restoration work is advancing quickly in the flood-devastated regions of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. It was also noted that the early warning systems are operational in the Northern Areas, allowing for the prompt evacuation of citizens to safer locations prior to flooding.
