China Expands Visa Free Transit Program

China has recently expanded its 240-hour visa-free transit program, now accepting citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam as eligible travelers. This brings the total count of countries with visa-free access to 57. These travelers are allowed to enter China through designated entry points without the need for a visa, provided they have a confirmed onward ticket to another country or region.

The program permits a stay of up to 240 hours, or 10 days, within the areas specified under the transit policy. Originally introduced in September 2025, Kyrgyzstan's addition brings the total number of eligible countries to 57. In December 2024, China further relaxed its visa policy, raising the maximum transit period from 72 or 144 hours to the current 240 hours.

Additionally, authorities added 21 more ports of entry and exit to the list of accessible areas for eligible transit passengers. The expanded framework enables travelers to enter China without a visa through these designated ports and remain in approved zones during their transit period. Earlier, the policy permitted use of 60 open ports across 24 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, facilitating travel for eligible foreign nationals.
