Five die as truck, car collide on Badagry Expressway

A tragic accident claimed the lives of five individuals on the Badagry Expressway in Lagos on Saturday morning. The collision occurred between a Toyota Camry and an Iveco truck near Sawmill and Mowo Bus Stop. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) was informed of the incident at 5:16 am and swiftly dispatched its Dolphin Team from Igando to the scene.

Upon arrival, LASEMA's operatives discovered that the Toyota Camry, with registration number FKJ 630KS, had collided head-on with the Iveco truck, bearing registration number T28081 LA. The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, revealed that the crash was likely caused by the Camry driver's reckless driving and over-speeding.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident was caused by over-speeding and reckless driving on the part of the Toyota Camry driver. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, veered into the opposite lane and had a head-on collision with the oncoming Iveco truck," the statement read. Five adult male occupants of the Toyota Camry were killed instantly in the impact.

The remains of the victims were carefully recovered and handed over to the Federal Road Safety Corps for further action. Response teams, including the LASEMA Dolphin Team, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Federal Road Safety Corps, and police from the Morogbo Division, were on the scene.

The expressway was cleared of wreckage and promptly reopened to traffic. Oke-Osanyintolu expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and emphasized the importance of safe driving practices, especially during early morning hours.
