Yamashita shoots 62 to take 1st-round lead in Edmonton in the CPKC Women’s Open

Edmonton witnessed a thrilling opening round of the CPKC Women’s Open as Miyu Yamashita shot an impressive 8-under 62, securing a one-stroke lead over fellow Japanese player Nasa Hataoka. The event, marking its first annual payment of $205.00 plus GST for a year, saw two Canadian teenagers, Anna Huang and Michelle Xing, both 17 and 18 respectively, making an appearance on the leaderboard.

American Kiara Romero, a newcomer to the LPGA Tour, was third at 64 in her first round. Yamashita expressed satisfaction with her performance, particularly in making putts, despite the abundance of mosquitoes on the course. Huang, a four-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, highlighted her increased confidence heading into the national championship.

Canadian star Brooke Henderson and 20-year-old Lydia Ko were also part of the leaderboard, with Ko opening with a 70.
