Forest department set up cages for leopards in Gujarat’s Valsad, 3 stray dogs get trapped instead

The forest department in Gujarat’s Valsad district set up cages for leopards last week, but an unexpected twist occurred when three stray dogs were instead trapped in one of the cages. The department received reports of three leopards sighting in Ghadoi village earlier in the week. In response, they placed cages with live chickens to lure the leopards, and installed cameras to monitor their movements.

On Tuesday, a leopard became trapped in a cage, and forest officials freed it in a deep forest area. Two additional cages remained in place. However, on Thursday evening, instead of leopards, three stray dogs became trapped in one of the cages located on the outskirts of the village. News of the stray dogs trapped in the cage spread among local villagers and others, who filmed the event and shared it on social media platforms.

The residents promptly reported the incident to the forest department, which successfully released the dogs back into the village. Valsad Range Forest Officer R C Gavit explained that three cages were set up based on pug marks of three leopards, but the dogs entered the cage to consume the chicken bait and were subsequently rescued by the forest officials.
