'China will be India's main competitor': Ex-Army chief Naravane

Former Army chief General MM Naravane has identified China as India's primary competitor in the coming years, despite both nations previously engaging in conflicts. Speaking at a book launch event in New Delhi, Naravane noted that while India has had wars with both China and Pakistan, Pakistan poses an immediate threat due to terrorism concerns.

In contrast, China is positioned as a competitor in terms of politics, economics, and military affairs. He distinguished between the two adversaries, emphasizing that while they will always be a challenge, India should focus on managing differences through dialogue and diplomacy rather than resorting to force. Naravane also stressed the importance of maintaining a credible military preparedness to deter any potential aggression, as force should only be considered a last resort.
