Johor police arrest five, open three investigation papers over upside-down flags

JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 20 – Johor police have made five arrests and initiated three investigations following incidents where the Malaysian flag and the state flag were displayed upside-down in the state. Johor deputy police chief Hoo Chuan Huat revealed that the arrests were made in connection with three reported cases, each falling under the jurisdiction of Kulai, Iskandar Puteri, and Johor Bahru South police stations.

The investigation papers for all three cases are currently being finalized and will soon be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further proceedings. So far, Hoo has announced that five individuals have been taken into custody, and investigations remain ongoing. Responding to police actions regarding the three recent cases, Hoo explained that in Kulai, two individuals – a 34-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman – were arrested to aid in the investigation.

For the Johor Bahru South case, two men aged 25 and 43 were also detained to assist in the probe. The latest arrest was made in Iskandar Puteri yesterday, where a 56-year-old man was taken into custody. Hoo clarified that all those arrested are believed to be employees of the respective business premises where the incidents occurred.

He advised business owners, supervisors, and employees to remain vigilant and ensure the proper display of national and state flags in their establishments to prevent further occurrences.
