3 cases of upside-down flags in Johor, 5 nabbed

Johor police have arrested five individuals and initiated three investigations after discovering upright flags being displayed upside-down in the state. Deputy Police Chief Hoo Chuan Huat made the announcement, expressing concern over the issue. The incidents were reported in Kulai, Pelangi Indah, and Iskandar Puteri. Once the investigations are finalized, the case files will be forwarded to the Attorney-General's Chambers for further legal action, he stated.

In Kulai, a Nepali man aged 34 and a local woman of 48 were detained in connection with the factory in Indahpura Industrial Area, which was briefly shut down on Monday. Both suspects were held for four days pending their release on Friday. Johor Bahru Selatan police arrested two men, aged 25 and 43, while Iskandar Puteri police apprehended a 56-year-old individual.

All three suspects were employees at the respective locations where the incidents occurred. The arrests came about following a complaint lodged by Kota Iskandar assemblyman Pandak Ahmad regarding an inverted Jalur Gemilang flag at the SILC Industrial Area in Gelang Patah.

Hoo Chuan Huat cautioned business owners and supervisors to scrutinize flags upon installation. He emphasized that foreign workers may install the flag incorrectly without knowing the proper orientation. Supervisors must oversee the entire process, and owners should instruct workers on the correct way to hoist the flag. Moreover, workers should submit photos of the completed installation for verification, he advised.
