Ex-Zambian minister killed in security raid on opposition

A former Zambian minister named Mutotwe Kafwaya was fatally wounded during a security operation in Lusaka last week, authorities announced. The raid targeted a house linked to opposition leader Brian Mundubile, who was out of the country following last month's presidential election. Eleven individuals were apprehended during the security operation, with the authorities accusing Mundubile's political party, the NRPUP, of engaging in "insurgency" and "militia activity" and possessing "high-grade weapons."

Mundubile has gone into hiding and denies the allegations, calling them "total fabrications." Following the election, incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema secured a second five-year term with 60% of the vote, while Mundubile received 38%. Kafwaya, 49, was identified in the shootout during the raid and later confirmed dead on Wednesday.

The opposition leader expressed surprise at Kafwaya's whereabouts after his death, stating he had no information prior to the incident.
