Anwar: Major announcements coming on Aug 30, Sept 16 and during Budget tabling

KLANG, Aug 20 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to release several significant announcements in the coming weeks, with at least three major ones slated for August 30, September 16, and during the budget tabling process, according to a recent statement at the Temu Anwar session. While the exact nature of these announcements remains undisclosed, Anwar emphasized his commitment to listening to various perspectives and making a crucial decision by August 31 that will benefit the nation. He also mentioned a visit to Kuching on September 16 for Malaysia Day celebrations.

The prime minister's remarks came in response to a student's query about the government's efforts to protect the financial security of gig economy workers. Anwar revealed plans to strengthen these protections by establishing the Malaysian Gig Economy Commission (SEGiM) and introducing legislation aimed at supporting small businesses. Despite some concerns that current assistance measures may be inadequate, the government remains dedicated to ensuring the welfare of gig workers.

Additionally, Anwar disclosed that the government would provide more accessible financing options for graduates seeking to start their own businesses, with the National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund (TEKUN) playing a central role. He suggested that the government should reevaluate the current requirement for applicants to have prior business experience when applying for funding, in response to evolving economic conditions and employment trends.
