Police kill suspected kidnapper, armed robber, recover arms in Anambra

Anambra State Police Command's operatives have killed two suspected criminals, an armed robber and a kidnapper, in a confrontation in the Eziowelle community of Idemili North Local Government Area. According to the police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident occurred in the early hours of August 19th, 2026. The command received intelligence about a group of armed robbers/kidnappers seen along Eziowelle Road.

Upon arrival, the police faced gunfire from the suspects, resulting in a gun battle. Two of the suspects were fatally shot, while others fled with varying gunshot wounds. The police recovered a fully loaded AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, and five live cartridges from the scene. This operation is part of the command's intelligence-led strategy to combat kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes in the state.

Under the leadership of CP Nnanna Oji Ama, the Anambra Police Command is committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring public safety. Further investigations are underway, and the police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining gang members.
