Osogbo gunfire: Police confirm one dead, vow to arrest suspects

An investigation into a shooting incident in Osogbo, Osun State has been launched following the death of Tajudeen Yusuf, a 60-year-old man. The Osun State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday evening. On August 19, 2026, around 1600 hours, Yusuf was shot by suspected hoodlums in the Itaolokan area of Osogbo.

Earlier that day, Governor Ademola Adeleke, accompanied by his nephew David Adeleke, also known as Davido, paid a courtesy visit to the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun. During the visit, a suspect named Adebayo Taoreed, a former convict and member of Eiye Confraternity, attempted to gain access to Davido but was resisted by his security team.

This led to a confrontation with other gang members, who blocked the entrance to the palace and obstructed the movement of Davido's convoy. After leaving the area, the suspects allegedly shot Yusuf dead. The police have commenced a full-scale investigation and are determined to apprehend the assailants. CP Samuel Etaifo, the Commissioner of Police for Election in the Osun State Command, condemned the act and assured the public that the command will deploy all available resources to bring those responsible to justice.
