Ministry of Transport attends 39th GCC Port Authorities Committee meeting

Doha, Qatar - A delegation from Qatar's Ministry of Transport attended the 39th meeting of the Committee of Gulf Cooperation Council Port Authorities and Maritime Administrations and Maritime Officials. The gathering took place at the GCC headquarters in Riyadh on Tuesday.

The meeting focused on uniform terms and controls for issuing operating licenses for marine vessels in compliance with international maritime conventions. Other topics included enhancing logistics integration within the GCC, updating licensing requirements for companies involved in marine vessel inspections, and considering technical alternatives to strengthen positioning, navigation, and timing services.

The committee also deliberated on classifying the Arabian Gulf waters as a Same Risk Area under the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments. Additionally, discussions centered around creating green shipping corridors between GCC ports, facilitating maritime vessel navigation and movement within territorial waters, and preparing marine environmental risk registers.

Strategies for proactive measures and solutions in case of restrictions on the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab were also explored.
