Five-year-old boy found dead in Mlolongo house in suspected poisoning

In Mlolongo Phase III of Machakos County, detectives initiated a search for a 35-year-old man after his five-year-old son was discovered dead in a single-roomed house. The mother, who had separated from her husband a month prior, returned the children to their father on August 16 following his call. On Tuesday, at approximately 2pm, she received an SMS from her husband asking her to go to the house and prepare food.

Upon arriving, she found her two-year-old daughter at the gate and entered the house to discover her son lying lifeless on a mattress. She attempted to contact her husband, but his phone was turned off. Police officers found a quarter-cup container containing suspected poison and vomit at the scene. The boy had visible injuries on his legs.

Detectives processed the crime scene before transporting the body to Saitoti Medical Hospital mortuary for further examination. The police are treating this incident as murder and have begun a manhunt for the boy's father, who is still at large. The investigation aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the child's death, including the source of the suspected poison and the nature of his injuries.

Separately, a three-year-old disabled child died in a fire in Ganja La Simba village, Kwale County, when five children were left alone in a two-bedroom makuti house on Tuesday evening. The children's mother had left them in the house when the fire started around 9pm. Four children managed to escape unharmed, but Bitoto was trapped inside and was found dead after being burned in the blaze. Police have yet to determine the cause of the fire and are currently investigating the incident.
