Eric Tinkler confident Asante Kotoko can challenge for Ghana Premier League title

Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler is confident in his team's potential to contest for the Ghana Premier League title in the upcoming 2026/27 season. The South African tactician took over the Porcupine Warriors in July and has been focused on assembling a squad capable of achieving major successes. With the new campaign approaching, Tinkler is optimistic about the abilities of his players to mount a serious title challenge.

In a recent pre-season friendly, Kotoko secured a victory over Heart of Lions, allowing Tinkler to assess his players and refine his strategy for the season. While Tinkler has set a target of a top-two finish in the league, he emphasizes that the club's ambition is to go all the way and claim the championship. The coach believes the necessary resources exist within the team to achieve such a feat.

"We have another game on Sunday. A very important game, and then we face Hearts of Oak, and that will be our last preparatory game," Tinkler stated to journalists. The preseason match against Hearts of Oak will serve as a crucial test for the team before they focus solely on the league, which is the club's primary objective. The former South African international inherits a club eager to return to the top following a disappointing 2025/26 season where they failed to secure any major trophies.

With the new season providing another opportunity to reclaim their position among Ghana's elite, Tinkler's confidence will be put to the test as he prepares his squad for the highly anticipated league action.
