2027: David Mark warns against manipulation of elections

Former Senate President David Mark cautioned against the manipulation of the 2027 general elections, asserting that the credibility of the polls must remain "non-negotiable." Speaking in Abuja, Mark emphasized the importance of transparency, inclusivity, peace, and freedom from interference for the electoral process. He expressed deep concern over the abuse of electoral processes by both state and non-state actors, citing the violent and intimidating incidents reported during the recent Osun State governorship election.

Mark warned against the normalization of violence and intimidation in elections, stating that they should not be treated as a "do-or-die affair" but rather as a democratic process that allows citizens to freely choose their leaders. He reiterated the ADC's commitment to a secure electoral environment where every vote counts and mandates given by voters are respected.

The International Republican Institute (IRI) delegation, visiting Nigeria to assess election preparations, echoed Mark's concerns, highlighting the need for a transparent and credible electoral process.
