2027: David Mark warns against manipulation of elections

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Senator David Mark, has cautioned against the manipulation of the 2027 general elections by state institutions, insisting that the credibility of the polls must be "non-negotiable". Speaking to a delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI) in Abuja, Mark emphasized the importance of a transparent, inclusive, and peaceful election process, warning that any form of electoral malpractice, including violence and intimidation, would undermine democratic governance and erode public confidence.

He highlighted the recent Osun State governorship election where no fewer than 30 people were killed, expressing concern over the recurring abuse of electoral processes by governments and non-state actors. Mark reiterated his party's commitment to an electoral process where every vote counts and mandates freely given by the electorate must be respected, as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify amid concerns over electoral violence and the neutrality of state institutions.
