US lawmaker calls for action against settler violence in the West Bank

Amid mounting violence by Israeli settlers, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has urged the Trump administration to intervene and safeguard Palestinians residing in the West Bank. In a statement on social media, Jeffries condemned the unlawful actions of these settlers, asserting that the siege of Palestinian homes is intolerable. He demanded that the administration compel Israel to shield Palestinian lives, property, and livelihoods.

According to recent data, at least 18 people were killed and 880 others wounded in settler attacks in 2026, a significant increase from the 830 Palestinians injured during the previous year. Moreover, the year 2026 saw over 2,300 Palestinians displaced due to settler violence and related access limitations, as reported by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha).

Jeffries emphasized that such actions are unacceptable and called on the administration to take decisive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of Palestinian civilians in the occupied West Bank.
