Police warn against forceful takeover of Osun LGs

The Osun State Police Command has issued a stern warning against any attempts to forcibly seize control of local government areas in the state. This caution comes as reports have emerged of certain individuals or groups plotting to seize power in defiance of ongoing court proceedings. Chief Abiodun Ojelabi, the Police Public Relations Officer, made the announcement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police (Election), Samuel Erale.

He emphasized that no political entity or individual possesses the authority to use force or self-help tactics to assume governance over any Local Government Area or public institution while legal matters are still in progress. The police have urged all parties to exercise restraint and allow the courts to adjudicate the situation in accordance with the law.

They have also declared that anyone attempting to occupy or disrupt local government facilities through force will face arrest and prosecution. The command has called upon community and traditional leaders, as well as political and youth leaders, to dissuade their supporters from actions that could jeopardize peace and security within the state.

Erale commended the residents for the peaceful conclusion of the recent governorship election and urged them to uphold the rule of law and patience as the judicial process unfolds.
