Police warn against forceful takeover of Osun LGs

The Osun State Police Command has issued a stern warning against any attempts to forcefully seize control of local government areas within the state. Police Public Relations Officer Abiodun Ojelabi made this clear in a statement on Monday, emphasizing that the command has been made aware of plans by certain individuals or groups to take such actions while their cases are pending before the courts.

Ojelabi stressed that such behavior would constitute a breach of the peace and an act of self-help, which is strictly prohibited.

The police have made it abundantly clear that no person, political group, or association possesses the authority to seize control of any local government area or public institution while legal proceedings are in progress. Ojelabi urged all parties involved to show restraint and allow the courts to adjudicate the matter according to the law. He further warned that anyone attempting to forcibly occupy or disrupt local government facilities would face arrest and prosecution.

The command emphasized that such acts would be treated as serious breaches of the peace and would be handled firmly in line with the law, including the arrest and prosecution of those deemed responsible. The police appealed to parents, community and traditional leaders, political figures, youth leaders, and other stakeholders to urge their supporters to refrain from actions that could potentially threaten the peace and security of the state.

Commissioner of Police (Election) Samuel Erale congratulated the residents of Osun on the successful and peaceful conclusion of the recent gubernatorial election. He commended the stakeholders for their participation in the democratic process and urged residents to maintain calm, respect the rule of law, and permit the judicial process to unfold without interference. The police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and public order throughout the state.
