NPP Greater Accra chairmanship is preparation for bigger political assignment– Okoe Boye

Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, the newly elected Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has explained that his ambition for the position is to gain valuable experience for a higher political role he anticipates. Dr Okoe Boye described his political career as an ongoing process of learning, which led him from constituency politics to regional leadership.

His decision to run for the regional chairmanship was not motivated by prestige or personal gain, but rather by the lessons he expects to learn from the role. Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Monday, August 17, Dr Okoe Boye highlighted that his past experience in constituency politics has provided him with essential insights into political organization and leadership.

However, he believes that the regional level would offer him a new set of lessons that will be beneficial for his future. He was convinced that serving as regional chairman would provide him with the necessary experience for a future political assignment. Dr Okoe Boye emphasized that his motivation for running for the regional chairmanship was not solely to occupy the position and enjoy the associated privileges, nor to add it to his CV.

Instead, his primary motivation was to broaden his political experience while contributing to the NPP's work in the Greater Accra Region. He stressed that his tenure should not be seen as a personal chapter in his political career, but rather as an opportunity to collaborate with constituency executives, party members, and the residents of Accra.

The former Minister of Health further explained that he hopes to gain practical lessons from the demands of regional leadership, such as working with the party’s grassroots structures and engaging with the people across the capital. He framed the regional chairmanship as an opportunity to serve while simultaneously preparing himself for future political responsibilities.

Dr Okoe Boye framed the chapter he intends to write in Greater Accra as a collective one involving the party’s constituency executives, supporters, and the wider Ghanaian population in the region. He noted that the experiences gained through those interactions would be an essential part of his political development. Dr Okoe Boye expressed a strong conviction that his political journey has not reached its ultimate destination, stating, "I know in my spirit that there is a big assignment for me."
