Widow of corporal electrocuted in Sabah to receive Sarawak rental aid, housing support

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee announced that the widow of Corporal Chiu Teck Siong will receive aid under the Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS) following her husband's death in an electric shock incident in Sabah on August 6. Chiu, a 40-year-old police officer, was among three individuals who died while attempting to move a metal pole used for harvesting coconuts outside the Weston Police Station in Beaufort. He was survived by his widow, Tang Wei Wei, and their five daughters aged between four and 11.

Tiang pledged to assist Tang in securing an affordable home for herself and her children, in addition to providing rental assistance under the SRAS. He stated, "We will find a suitable and affordable house for Tang and her children." Furthermore, he revealed that the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Tiong Hin Management Board would cover Tang's children's education expenses, including tuition fees, until they complete primary school.

The government, meanwhile, would bear the pre-school education expenses, including textbooks, for Tang's youngest daughter, who is four years old.

Tiang also expressed his commitment to continuing to assist the family, particularly in addressing several unresolved legal matters. Chiu, alongside his three colleagues, is believed to have perished while attempting to move the metal pole during a coconut harvesting operation.
