See Jakarta's Traffic Diversions for Independence Day Celebrations

Jakarta officials will implement temporary traffic rerouting on key roads on August 17 as the city hosts festivities commemorating Indonesia's 81st anniversary of independence. The Jakarta Transportation Agency has prepared specific plans for morning flag ceremonies, a People's Festival at Monas, and an evening decorated vehicle parade.

Around 500 transportation officers will manage traffic throughout the day. Here are the designated traffic management times and alternative routes:

1. Morning flag parade and Independence Day ceremonies: 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Affected roads include Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, and Jalan Veteran I to III. Alternates include routes from Harmoni to Tugu Tani and vice versa, as well as Hotel Indonesia Roundabout to Harmoni.

2. People's Festival around Monas: 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Situational traffic management will be in place around Monas and surrounding areas. Some alternatives include Hotel Indonesia Roundabout to Harmoni via Kebon Sirih and H. Fachrudin, and Senen to Tanah Abang via Kebon Sirih.

3. Evening celebration and decorated vehicle carnival: 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. A decorated vehicle parade will travel through central Jakarta. Traffic management will be implemented around Monas, Tanah Abang, Menteng, Kebon Kacang, and Dukuh Atas. Alternatives include routes from Harmoni to Kuningan and Menteng to Tanah Abang.

The Jakarta Transportation Agency advised residents not to use roads affected by the traffic modifications unless necessary, and encouraged attendees of the Independence Day events to use public transportation, obey traffic signs, and follow instructions from field officers.
