US pulls last aircraft carrier in Asia as Trump focuses on Iran and Western Hemisphere

President Donald Trump's ongoing conflict with Iran is straining the capabilities of U.S. aircraft carriers, leaving the western Pacific without one of the country's key warships, according to reports. The USS George Washington is set to depart the Pacific region, replacing the USS Abraham Lincoln, which is now stationed in the Middle East due to growing concerns about mental health and supply issues aboard the carrier.

The Abraham Lincoln's deployment has been extended from its original May return date to support operations against Iran. While it is possible that another carrier could be deployed in the Pacific within the next few months, the absence of a U.S. aircraft carrier in the region highlights the strain on American sailors and the Trump administration's shifting focus away from the Asia-Pacific region towards the Western Hemisphere.

Greg Poling, director of the Southeast Asia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, noted that the administration has stated that the Pacific should be the most important region behind the Western Hemisphere.
