UBEC rehabilitates Lagos school for dropout girls

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has rehabilitated a school in Lagos for dropout girls, emphasizing that no child should be denied an education due to challenging circumstances. Executive Secretary Dr. Aisha Garba inaugurated the Alternative High School for Girls in Agboju, Lagos State, highlighting the importance of providing opportunities for girls and young women who have left school due to pregnancy, early marriage, family responsibilities, or other circumstances.

The rehabilitation project, supported by UBEC through its Universal Basic Education intervention, aims to offer an alternative pathway for these girls to acquire education and skills, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives. Garba stressed that the school should not merely be a place for attending classes but a source of hope, confidence, and renewed futures for the girls.

The initiative aligns with the Federal Government's broader efforts to improve access, learning outcomes, and retention in Nigeria's education system, including investments in school infrastructure, teacher development, and programmes for vulnerable and out-of-school children. UBEC has handed over the facility to the Lagos State Government, urging the state to maintain the school and ensure its continued success in serving the intended beneficiaries.
