Three arrested in alleged attempt to breach SADC Summit security in Durban

Three individuals have been apprehended in an attempt to breach security at the 46th SADC Summit in Durban, according to the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS). The arrests came after two Congolese nationals were stopped at an access-control point at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) venue, presenting accreditation that did not match their identities.

They face charges of fraud, impersonation, and contravening the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act 2 of 2010. A third suspect, a Zimbabwean national, was arrested earlier this week for attempting to enter the summit venue by falsely claiming to be a performing artist. This individual faces a charge of being in South Africa illegally.

NATJOINTS has warned accredited individuals not to share or transfer their accreditation, emphasizing that only those with valid documents will be permitted inside the summit venue. The structure has also cautioned against criminal activities, violence, intimidation, and attempts to breach restricted areas during the event. Those planning protests are encouraged to observe the law and adhere to instructions given by law enforcement officers.
