Security breaches at the 46th SADC Summit: Three arrests made

Security breaches were reported at the 46th SADC Summit in Durban, with three individuals arrested. The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) disclosed that two Congolese nationals attempted to gain unauthorized entry using falsified accreditation. These arrests occurred at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) access-control point, where security officials identified discrepancies between the individuals' identities and the accreditation they presented.

They now face charges of fraud, impersonation, and contravention of the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act 2 of 2010 for attempting to enter a designated area without authorization. Moreover, a Zimbabwean national was apprehended earlier in the week for allegedly seeking accreditation while claiming to be a performing artist, which led to charges of illegal presence in South Africa.

NATJOINTS has warned accredited attendees not to share or transfer their accreditation, emphasizing that only those with valid documents will be granted entry. The organization is prepared for planned marches and gatherings in Durban, urging all participants to adhere to the law and instructions from law-enforcement officers. NATJOINTS respects peaceful, lawful protests but will not tolerate criminality, violence, intimidation, threats, property destruction, breaches of restricted areas, or any deliberate attempts to disrupt the summit proceedings.
