TG BJP banks on graduate voter base

The Telangana BJP is relying heavily on its long-standing support among upper caste and urban graduates in the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Graduates' constituency. With nearly six lakh eligible voters, this group is seen as crucial to the party's success. Party leaders are confident that a concentrated effort to maximize graduate voter registration could greatly enhance the BJP's chances.

Unlike regular elections, enrollment for graduates' constituency polls must be completed anew for each election. Any graduate who earned a degree at least three years prior is eligible to register once the Election Commission releases the election notification. Candidates in these elections run without party symbols, although political parties formally endorse nominees through 'B' forms and actively campaign for them.

The BJP has planned a comprehensive awareness and enrollment campaign once the notification is released. Despite recent student-led protests or setbacks in certain byelections, party leaders have ruled out concerns that these events could affect their performance. "MLC elections have a distinct electorate and voting pattern," a senior BJP leader remarked. "They cannot be directly compared with other byelections."
