Teacher remanded over alleged sexual assault of Form 4 student in Kuala Terengganu

A male teacher in Kuala Terengganu has been remanded for six days to aid investigations into the alleged sexual assault of a Form Four student at a secondary school. The police received a report from the student around 4:04 pm on August 12, stating that the assault occurred at approximately 10:15 am on August 10 during a school visit.

The student alleged that the teacher had committed similar acts multiple times before. On August 13, at 11:10 am, the suspect, identified as a male teacher at the victim's school, was arrested. The Kuala Terengganu Magistrate’s Court granted the remand, with the six-day period lasting from August 14 to 19. Police have opened an investigation under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which may result in up to 20 years in prison and whipping if convicted.

The case will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions. Azli Mohd Noor, the district police chief, advised parents to educate their children about sexual harassment and monitor their children's daily activities.
