Strong economic figures alone won’t win over voters, says Fahmi

The PKR party’s information chief, Fahmi Fadzil, spoke at the party’s Congress in Melaka, highlighting that strong economic figures alone may not be enough to win over voters. According to Fahmi, economic indicators like GDP growth, unemployment rate, government revenue, and investment inflows represent the peripheral economy. While these figures paint a broader economic picture, they can sometimes feel disconnected from the daily experiences of ordinary Malaysians.

Fahmi emphasized that issues such as wages, the cost of living, and fuel prices (RON95) resonate more strongly with the populace. He used the recent Negeri Sembilan state election as a case study, where the Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional parties formed the government after securing 25 seats, proving that the PH government's performance was insufficient to sway voters.

Fahmi underscored the importance of addressing Malaysians’ economic concerns in contrast to political tactics that exploit their emotions. He noted that the election results showed that fear politics can overpower performance, and it is crucial for the party to consider the issues that are most pertinent to the people to overcome such challenges.
