Sarawak Education Department says Serian schools reopen tomorrow

All primary and secondary schools in the Serian District will resume operations from tomorrow, according to the Sarawak Education Department. The department issued a statement today confirming this. The department emphasized that any updates or changes would be communicated as necessary. They reminded schools to prioritize the health and safety of students, teachers, and staff.

JPNS stressed the importance of adhering to the standard operating procedures set out by the Ministry of Education of Malaysia. These procedures are outlined in Circular Letter No. 1 of 2019, which provides guidance for schools in areas affected by critical haze conditions. The letter was issued on January 15, 2019. Additionally, the department reminded schools to follow the guidelines in Circular Letter No. 3 of 2023, published on June 6, 2023, which provides instructions for implementing outdoor activities at educational institutions during hot weather.

Schools are advised to stay informed by monitoring air quality levels through the Department of Environment's official portal and the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS). In line with the Ministry of Health's recommendations, schools are urged to take steps to protect the well-being of students and education personnel.
