Sarawak Education Department says Serian schools reopen tomorrow

Kuching, August 16 — The Sarawak Education Department has announced that all primary and secondary schools within the Serian District will resume normal operations starting tomorrow. The JPNS revealed this in a statement today, adding that any subsequent changes or updates will be communicated as needed. Schools have been urged to prioritize the health and safety of students, teachers, and school staff.

JPNS emphasized the importance of adhering to the standard operating procedures outlined in MOE Circular Letter No. 1 of 2019, which details measures for maintaining student health and safety during critical haze conditions. This guideline was issued on January 15, 2019. Furthermore, schools are required to follow the instructions in MOE Circular Letter No. 3 of 2023, titled "Guidelines for the Implementation of Outdoor Activities at Educational Institutions under the MOE During Hot Weather," which was released on June 6, 2023.

JPNS stressed the need for schools to remain informed by regularly checking the Department of Environment's official website and the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) to monitor air quality levels in their specific regions. They also recommended following the recommendations of the Ministry of Health to ensure the well-being of students and education personnel during this challenging period.
