Russia says at least seven killed in largest Ukrainian attack of 2026

At least seven people lost their lives in Russia following what officials described as Ukraine's "largest-scale" attack of 2026. A total of 822 drones were deployed, with 600 targeting Moscow, according to the regional governor. The Russian capital has endured one of the most massive drone assaults in recent memory, as reported by the governor.

A warehouse belonging to Russian e-commerce giant Wildberries, which is similar to Amazon in Russia, was struck, resulting in three injuries. Russian strikes on Ukraine also claimed at least seven lives and injured over 39 individuals. In recent weeks, Russia has ramped up its missile attacks across Ukraine, while Kyiv has intensified drone strikes deep inside Russia.

Five people died in Russia's southwestern Rostov region due to overnight strikes, according to the governor there. In Belgorod, a region bordering Ukraine, a woman was killed when a civilian bus was hit by a drone, while an 83-year-old man passed away after being targeted by a drone in the Moscow region, as stated by Governor Andrey Vorobyov.

A Wildberries warehouse in Koledino, located 15.5 miles from central Moscow, suffered damage from the attack, resulting in three injuries, as reported by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. Videos showed a fire and substantial smoke emanating from the warehouse. Wildberries has been repeatedly targeted since July, with the company claiming it is attempting to disrupt Russian military equipment supply lines.

Both sides in the conflict accuse each other of targeting civilians. In Ukraine, a 66-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman died after a guided aerial bomb hit a private house in the Zaporizhzhia region, according to officials. Two additional fatalities were recorded in Kryvyi Rih, a city in Dnipropetrovsk. Sumy, Donetsk, and Kherson also reported one death each, including a 51-year-old killed in a drone strike in Sumy.

Kyiv witnessed air-raid sirens sounding four times overnight as Russian forces attacked the Ukrainian capital, resulting in at least six casualties, including a child, as reported by Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Russia stated that its strikes on Kyiv on Saturday night aimed at a FirePoint facility producing parts for Ukrainian Flamingo missiles and a factory manufacturing drone components.

A bookmarket in the Pochayna district of Kyiv was also damaged by the strikes. Burnt books littered the ground, and firefighters worked to extinguish the flames. Valentina, whose husband owned a market stall, described the devastation, expressing hope that Russia would cease existing. Vinyl store owner Luba, whose business was hit, lamented the loss of 500,000 hryvnias worth of stock, comprising rare and irreplaceable vinyl records.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that 13 regions had fallen under Russian attack during the week, with Russia launching over 1,550 drones, nearly 1,560 guided aerial bombs, and 62 missiles. Zelensky emphasized that Russian forces target civilian infrastructure wherever they can reach with their ballistic missiles.

The war between Russia and Ukraine, which began in February 2022, has largely evolved into an aerial conflict involving missile and drone exchanges aimed at weakening the military capabilities of each country.
