Rain delays start of play on day 2 of 1st test between Sri Lanka and India

GALLE, Sri Lanka (AP) — In the first test between India and Sri Lanka at Galle, rain disrupted play on day two. As a result, India's innings could only be completed with just over three hours of action. Devdutt Padikkal's impressive 167 not out proved crucial, while Lokesh Rahul and Dhruv Jurel also contributed with scores of 82 and 51 respectively.

Prabath Jayasuriya took 4-109, and debutant Keshara Nuwantha took 3-175. India had reached 288-2 earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat. Rishabh Pant was the first Indian wicket to fall, followed by Dhruv Jureja lbw. Jayasuriya dismissed Jurel in the 92nd over, and Jayasuriya and Nuwantha claimed three more wickets in the closing overs.
