Jaguars 53-man roster projection after first week of the preseason

The Jacksonville Jaguars have completed their first week of preseason, allowing several young players to showcase their skills in joint practices with the New Orleans Saints. Following the game, the team shared a projection for their 53-man roster heading into Preseason Week 1.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Nick Mullens are expected to be the starting quarterbacks. Cuts were made for Carter Bradley and Joey Aguilar, both rookies. Trevor Lawrence's backup status is crucial, as the team looks to invest in a solid option for the upcoming season.

In the running back position, Chris Rodriguez Jr., Bhayshul Tuten, LeQuint Allen, and J Mari Taylor are projected on the roster. J Mari Taylor had an impressive performance with 78 yards on 22 carries, securing his spot on the main roster. Ameer Abdullah and DeeJay Dallas, who had limited playing time, fell to the backup group.

The wide receiver position features Jakobi Meyers, Brian Thomas Jr., Parker Washington, Travis Hunter, Josh Cameron, CJ Williams, and newcomer J Mari Taylor. Chandler Brayboy and Trebor Pena both had notable performances, but most spots in the receiver room are secure.

Tight end Brenton Strange, Nate Boerkircher, Tanner Koziol, and Hunter Long are all expected on the roster. Hunter Long's effectiveness in the run game significantly contributed to the Jaguars' successful second-half push. Quintin Morris has found himself on the outside looking in.

On the offensive line, Cole Van Lanen, Ezra Cleveland, Robert Hainsey, Patrick Mekari, Anton Harrison, Walker Little, and rookie Emmanuel Pregnon are part of the projected roster. Chuma Edoga, who was injured in the first quarter, faces an uncertain future. Several players may be placed on injured reserve as the season progresses.

The defensive line/edge rusher group includes Josh Hines-Allen, DaVon Hamilton, Arik Armstead, Travon Walker, Ruke Orhorhoro, Matt Dickerson, Albert Regis (R), BJ Green II, Danny Striggow, and Wesley Williams (R). Cuts were made for Keivie Rose, Zach Durfee, T.J. Bollers, Quinton Bohanna, Jalen Hunt, and Quindarius Dunnigan. Wesley Williams and Albert Regis impressed as rookies vying for spots on the practice squad.

The linebacker unit features Foye Oluokun, Ventrell Miller, Dennis Gardeck, Branson Combs, and projected rookie Jalen McLeod. Cuts occurred for Yasir Abdullah, Jahlani Tavai, Amari Burney, and Parker Hughes. Yasir Abdullah had a strong performance, but competition for a roster spot seems fierce. Abdullah could be a valuable special teams asset if retained.

Cornerback Travis Hunter and Montaric Brown are among the projected starters.
