Passengers escape death as VIP travelling from Kumasi to Sunyani catches fire

A VIP bus journey from Kumasi to Sunyani unexpectedly ended in safety after being engulfed in a catastrophic fire at Abuakwa, situated in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of Ghana's Ashanti Region. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle started emitting smoke shortly after departing from Kumasi station. The situation escalated significantly by the time the bus reached the Abuakwa stretch of the Kumasi-Sunyani road.

Passengers swiftly evacuated the vehicle to avoid injury, and a bystander named Ofori Boateng described the fire spreading within a span of five minutes, consuming the entire bus. The exact reason behind the fire remains unidentified, but there are speculations that the engine could have overheated. Miraculously, all passengers safely escaped the inferno, resulting in no reported casualties.

Nevertheless, the bus and the passengers' belongings were completely obliterated. The Ghana National Fire Service personnel in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality arrived at the scene to combat the blaze, but the damage to the vehicle was already substantial. The fire also induced substantial traffic congestion along the Abuakwa segment of the road.

Police officers were dispatched to the area to manage the chaos and alleviate the traffic bottlenecks.
