Passengers escape death as VIP travelling from Kumasi to Sunyani catches fire

A splendid outing from Kumasi to Sunyani was tragically cut short when a VIP bus, packed with esteemed passengers, was engulfed in flames near Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The blaze, which began shortly after the bus departed from Kumasi, had escalated by the time it reached the Abuakwa segment of the Kumasi-Sunyani highway, compelling passengers to swiftly exit the charred vehicle.

Reports suggest the precise cause of the inferno remains under investigation, though speculation points towards potential engine overheating. Eyewitness Ofori Boateng, however, asserts that the transformation from smoke to flames happened within a span of mere minutes. He confirms that passengers managed to make a safe escape prior to the bus succumbing to the flames, a development that spared the lives of all onboard. While the human cost remained nil, the vehicle and its contents were utterly obliterated by the inferno.

The Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality's Ghana National Fire Service swiftly responded to the scene, diligently working to subdue the flames. Their efforts, however, were in vain as the bus had already sustained extensive damage. The blaze also induced significant traffic disruptions on the Abuakwa stretch of the Kumasi-Sunyani road. In an attempt to mitigate the traffic snarl, law enforcement officers were strategically positioned to manage the situation and ease the ensuing congestion.
