Marcus Ericsson wins inaugural Ontario Honda Dealers at Markham

In a thrilling inaugural event, Marcus Ericsson claimed victory at the Ontario Honda Dealers IndyCar race held in Markham. The Canadian driver secured his fifth IndyCar win of the season, surpassing Romain Grosjean with just four laps remaining. This marked Grosjean's first top-five finish of the year, placing him second overall. Will Power rounded out the top three, while season leader Alex Palou finished in fourth place.

The inaugural race in Markham marked the first time the event has been held in Canada, following its relocation from Toronto's Exhibition Place in 2022. Palou, who started the race 12th on the grid, expanded his lead in the driver standings to 133 points over Kyle Kirkwood. Despite not securing a podium finish, Palou remains determined to clinch his fifth IndyCar title.

Louis Foster set the fastest times in both practice and qualifying sessions, securing the pole position for the race. Foster had predicted a chaotic race at the 12-turn, 3.52-kilometer road course in Markham, and his prediction proved accurate as he crashed during the 43rd lap. The incident occurred when Foster clipped the inside wall after passing Ericsson and then collided with the outside wall of Turn 3.
