Malaysian pilot suspected of multiple drug runs since 2024 - Police

A Malaysian pilot detained in Indonesia for allegedly smuggling over 26kg of drugs is suspected of making multiple drug deliveries to various countries since 2024, Malaysian police have stated. During questioning by Malaysian investigators in Jakarta, Deputy Director of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) Datuk Hussein Omar Khan revealed that the pilot has been involved in drug smuggling since 2024, transporting contraband to different destinations according to his flight schedule.

Hussein stated that the pilot has also provided information on several drug syndicates operating in Malaysia and Indonesia. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will investigate these syndicates, tracing financial flows linked to drug sales and sharing information with relevant foreign drug enforcement agencies. Investigations have found no indication of insider involvement at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), suggesting the pilot acted alone during security checks.

PDRM remains confident that no insider involvement occurred, though the pilot's method of evasion is being examined to determine how the drugs went undetected. The pilot, currently in Indonesian custody, will face legal proceedings in Indonesia. The possibility of extradition to Malaysia is under consideration, pending further investigation into the number of drug consignments, their destinations, and the payments received by the pilot since 2024.
