Mackenzie Dern wins 115-pound title defense at UFC 330; Makhachev goes for record win streak

Philadelphia (AP) — Mackenzie Dern successfully defended her 115-pound championship title in her first title defense, defeating Gillian Robertson by unanimous decision in the first of two championship fights on Saturday night at UFC 330. Dern, who won the vacant strawweight belt at UFC 321, secured the victory with scores of 49-46 on two judges' cards and 48-47 on the third.

She nearly secured the victory with a choke submission in the first round, but Robertson was revived by the bell. The title bout became relatively uneventful after the first round, with both fighters mostly clinching on the canvas and sparing little in the way of strikes. Dern's 7-year-old daughter cheered her mother on from the front row, heard clearly over a subdued crowd.

Meanwhile, Islam Makhachev aims to set a UFC record by winning his 17th consecutive fight if he defeats Ian Machado Garry in the main event. Currently, Makhachev is tied with UFC Hall of Famer Anderson Silva at 16 consecutive wins.
