India's 1st high-speed rail corridor nears completion

India's inaugural high-speed rail corridor, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train, is nearing completion, with its anticipated launch in August 2027. The project, spanning 508 kilometers across Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, will connect two major cities and pass through key industrial hubs. Fresh images from ongoing construction reveal the various stages of progress at stations in Mumbai and Surat.

In Mumbai, the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station, the corridor's starting point, is being built nearly 30 meters underground, presenting the most challenging segment of the project. Excavation and foundation work at the site are in their final stages. Meanwhile, the Surat station in Gujarat showcases completed structural framework and roofing, with interior finishing underway. The station's design reflects Surat's diamond cutting industry, honoring the city's commercial identity.

Once operational, trains on the corridor will reach a maximum speed of 320 km/h, reducing the 508 km distance between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to approximately two hours. The project, which began in September 2017, represents a significant step towards modernizing India's rail infrastructure and promoting sustainable economic growth. The first high-speed train service is expected to commence in August 2027, with phased operations possible as construction advances at different speeds across states.
