Improvements in targeted diesel subsidy scheme in ‘1 to 2 months’

Finance minister Amir Hamzah Azizan announced several enhancements to the targeted diesel subsidy system, with the changes expected to be revealed within the next one to two months. The proposed improvements encompass simplifying the application procedure, loosening eligibility requirements for assuming hire-purchase payments, and permitting quota transfers to immediate family members.

Amir emphasized that these measures are part of the government's strategy to ensure that every allocation made to the populace yields tangible benefits and helps alleviate the escalating cost-of-living pressures at the local level. Preparations for the 2027 budget are being conducted to achieve a more efficient and comprehensive delivery of assistance under the targeted diesel subsidy program, aligning with the government's commitment to optimize the benefits received by eligible individuals.

As of now, approximately 120,000 pickup truck and jeep owners in Sabah have been identified as eligible to apply for a diesel subsidy quota exceeding 300 liters. However, the registration count stands at around 49,000. Amir urged more eligible vehicle owners in Sabah to promptly submit their applications, as the necessary facilities and application channels have already been established.
